“Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop, Los Angeles’ gourmet salad eatery serving their famous custom-made premium salads, wraps, and sandwiches with locations in Beverly Hills and Century City, announces the official opening of its third location in Costa Mesa on April 30, 2012. Named one of the city’s best new restaurants by Los Angeles magazine in 2009 and helmed by Owner and “Commander-in-Leaf” Jonathan Rollo, Greenleaf makes it way to Orange County, providing local diners with the freshest local and all-natural ingredients and countless affordable options to support a healthy lifestyle. Designed by SF Jones, and complete with a marketplace, wine bar, indoor and outdoor dining, and an on-site chef’s garden, Greenleaf Costa Mesa will be the largest of the three locations.
“I’m thrilled to open Greenleaf in Costa Mesa,” Rollo says. “We searched for a great Orange County location for a long time and I couldn’t be more excited about how the restaurant turned out. We assembled a talented team to create this beautiful place and now we have the opportunity to introduce our healthy options to Orange County locals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And, on the personal side, this is a project of passion for me, because it means my own family doesn’t have to drive to LA to satisfy their Greenleaf cravings!”
Greenleaf’s newest outpost will offer Orange County residents a unique dining experience, with an abundance of seating in the warm, inviting, 4,200-square-foot space, which includes both indoor and outdoor dining and a private outdoor dining space. The Costa Mesa location will also feature a wine bar, including four wines and six beers on tap, and a marketplace with signature Greenleaf Grab ‘N Go food items, bottled dressings, fresh baked goods, freshly squeezed juices, and more. Guests on the go are invited to call ahead or place their orders online and pick up their custom-made meals curbside.
Rollo and Executive Chef Kristi Ritchey’s commitment to wellness is reflected in their use of organic and local ingredients in Greenleaf’s gourmet, made-to-order salads, sandwiches, and wraps. “It’s been amazing to be a part of Greenleaf, as it has allowed me to make healthy choices with ease, and create food that people not only love to eat, but that is also good for them,” Ritchey says. “Much like with our Los Angeles locations, we hope that our Costa Mesa restaurant will inspire Orange County customers to make smart lifestyle and eating decisions with our selection of nutritious menu items.”
Guests can choose from signature items such as the Antioxidant Orchard Salad with grapes, celery, agave-roasted walnuts, dried cranberries, crumbled blue cheese, mint, red onion, cucumbers, and seasonal berries with housemade pomegranate, whole grain mustard vinaigrette ($10.95); as well as lighter versions of specialty salads, including the Buffalo “Wangs” Lite Salad, modified with turkey bacon and grilled chicken tossed in chipotle orange BBQ sauce ($9.95). Salad lovers can also invent their own creations with over 78 toppings and more than 15 dressings, all made in-house and free of gluten, preservatives, and artificial ingredients. A selection of grilled pizzas and entrées include the Wild Mushroom and Truffle Pizza made on a whole wheat tortilla ($9.95) and a housemade Turkey Burger on a five-grain bun ($10.95).
Guests can start their day with a breakfast menu including a selection of nourishing hot items and fresh grab-and-go options such as a Breakfast Sandwich with grilled chicken, portobello mushroom, egg whites, aged cheddar, shaved onions, and truffled spinach on whole grain bread ($9.95); Cracked Wheat French Toast served with cinnamon-apple compote and agave ($7.95); and a Cobb Omelet with egg whites, turkey bacon, tomato, basil, blue cheese, and avocado pesto ($9.95).
Greenleaf’s focus on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and sustainability is also reflected in the environmentally conscious construction of the location. Design elements incorporate reclaimed, recycled, and compostable materials and green energy initiatives to create an eco-friendly environment. The Costa Mesa outpost echoes the “modern farm stand” aesthetic of the Los Angeles locations, incorporating décor elements by SF Jones Architects, such as reclaimed wood furniture, vintage riddling racks, and a unique combination of various repurposed materials. The gardens, planted and maintained by Harvest to Home, a local Southern California company specializing in creating organic vegetable and herb boxes and raised bed gardens, will grow a variety of herbs and seasonal vegetables that will be incorporated in seasonal menu specials and available for purchase in Greenleaf’s marketplace.
Rollo and Ritchey’s debut of Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop in Costa Mesa marks the restaurant’s expansion into Orange County. Rollo, a Pasadena native who led a string of successive restaurant openings in Southern California with the Patina Group, and Ritchey, also formerly of the Patina Group, joined forces to provide Angelenos with fresh and affordable gourmet fare. Ritchey has been featured in USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, and on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” for her incredible weight loss story, which she credits to a healthy diet and a consistent exercise regimen. She has become well-known for tailoring meals and menus to the individual dietary needs of nutrition-conscious customers.
