100eats will curate the Culinary Stage at the upcoming Re:Imagine Garden Grove Open Streets Event on October 12, 2014 from 11:00am-4:00om. The culinary stage will present live cooking demonstrations led by some of Orange County’s most respected chefs! The stage will be set up on main street between Acacia and Garden Grove Blvd.
12:00-12:45 – - Chef Nathaniel Nguyen from Prince & the Pantry
Nathaniel Nguyen is the executive chef at the Prince & the Pantry. Nathaniel began as a busboy and knew that he in the right industry. He got his big break when he become a chef on a gourmet food truck that served California seasonal cuisines. Shortly after, he appeared on the premiere episode of ABC’s The Taste where he had the opportunity to cook for Nigella Lawson and Anthony Bourdain. He returned home to spearhead Morning by Thasos, a nutritionally conscious breakfast concept, where one his dishes was named OC’s Weekly’s 100 Favorite Dish for 2013 before taking his talents to The Prince & Pantry. Nathaniel is known for his creative flavor pairings and inspired take on classic dishes. Nathaniel also teaches gourmet cooking classes for Inspire Artistic Minds, an Orange County non-profit.
Chef Andrew is currently a chef at The Iron Press and Blind Rabbit located inside the Packing House in Costa Mesa.
3:00-3:45 – Chef Niki Staff from Mesa Lounge
Chef Niki Starr is currently working as the Executive Chef at Mesa Lounge in Costa Mesa. Niki is an Orange County native. She graduated from CSULB with a degree with Health Science, but realized that nursing was not her true calling and began culinary school in San Diego. She received her first externship and job at French 75 in Laguna Beach. After French 75, she moved over to Charlie Palmer and met her mentor Chef Amar Santana. After working for Chef Amar or 3 years, she moved over to mesa Lounge and became the Executive Chef. She has many favorites dishes, but she loves to make soups, break down protein, and searing any fish with skin on it.
About Re:Imagine Garden Grove: This is a first-time open streets event that will create three miles of temporary open streets – free of cars – for thousands of people to walk, bike, run, skate, play and enjoy this public space in a safe and comfortable way. In addition, food, music, art, dancing and other interactive programs will activate the heart of Downtown Garden Grove like never before.
