Art Beyond the Glass is in it’s third year, and from what I hear, the event has grown to become a Los Angeles staple for the bar community.  It’s history is deeply rooted in the passion for arts and showcases not only cocktail creations as a craft, but all the auctioned art pieces and stage entertainment have also been provided by the talented Los Angeles bar community or cocktail enthusiasts.  Daniel Djang of Thirsty in LA and Zhara Bates of The Pikey are the masterminds behind the success of this event.  Art Beyond the Glass 3 will be raising funds for the Mural Conservancy of Los Angeles, an acclaimed arts nonprofit that works to restore, preserve, and document the murals of Los Angeles. Proceeds from ABTG 3 will help restore Luchas del Mundo (Struggles of the World), a landmark mural created for the 1984 Olympics by famed artist Willie Herrón lll.  The annual event was held at Sadie Kitchen and Lounge, who not only provided the venue, but also provided the flatbreads and sliders that were used to soak up all the alcohol floating around the event.

The St.Germain Cotton Candy stole the show with one of the most interesting spirit presentations I have ever seen at an event like this. Among the upwards of 20 or so cocktail variations at about 10 or so bar stations the “This Shit Is Bananas!” cocktail made with Giffard Banane, Bacardi, Fresh Lime, and Banana was a fun, tropical, boozey banana smoothie and I loved it. Joe Valdovinos of The Playground , and creator of “This Shit Is Bananas!” cocktail, showed me to his booth where all the bartenders manning the booth were decked out in U.S.A Athletic gear.  Thats when I realized all the bars were teamed together, which made for an even more entertaining afternoon.  It all came to a climax when the rock music and DJing of the afternoon came to an end and a team of 4 incredibly talented individuals began to karaoke various rap, disney, and pop songs… The crowd went wild…
